America's first vertical wind tunnel, Flyaway Indoor Skydiving is the perfect way to experience the thrill of skydiving without actually having to jump out of a plane! The wind tunnel simulates the effects of skydiving in a safe indoor environment. It offers an opportunity for kids to try skydiving.

Before jumping into the wind tunnel, participants will take a short training course. In groups of five, participants will train (about 20 minutes), get equipped (about 15 minutes) and take turns flying (about 3 min each). Classes are held every hour and half-hour, and registration is on a first-come, first-serve basis. Flyaway Indoor Skydiving is a popular training tool for professional skydivers, military units and competition teams. But it's also a fun activity for families vacationing in the Smokies. While typical skydiving is only for adults, the indoor wind tunnel is appropriate for kids and adults of almost every age.

Children must weigh at least 40 lbs, and there are some weight restrictions on adults. But almost everyone can fly! They are open 10 am to 8 pm daily, and flight prices are as follows:

First Flight – $34
Repeat Flight – $22
Family Block – $155
Book of Five – $110
Video – $16

Flyaway Indoor Skydiving also offers personalized packages and coaching classes for aspiring and professional skydivers, as well as group events. The coaching programs help guests improve body flight skills, and the personalized programs will be created specifically for each guest's skill levels and needs. Flyaway Indoor Skydiving offers great value, and it's an awesome training resource. Of course, there are no rainy or bad weather days inside, so guests can skydive year round. There are also no rigs to pack, so there is much more time to practice freefall in the wind tunnel. Flyaway is a ton of fun, and there are just a few simple rules:

  • Everyone should be in average physical condition & height and weight proportionate
  • Check online for pre-registration sheets and weight guidelines
  • Wear comfortable clothes, socks and tennis shoes
  • Allot about an hour and fifteen minutes for your visit

This is sure to be a fun, unique, exciting and awesome experience for everyone in your family or group! While it can be fun to do the typical Smoky Mountain things, the indoor wind tunnel is really a great way to mix things up! If you get cabin fever, head to Flyaway Indoor Skydiving on a rainy or cold day in the mountains. Or, just beat the heat in the summer!
